Training

We will be holding our next UK Amateur radio Foundation licence training course over the weekend of the 19th and 20th October 2019, with the revision session and exam the next Saturday the 26th October.

Training will take place at the Scout Hall behind Banstead Methodist Church, The Drive, Banstead, SM7 1DA (Detailed instructions on finding the scout hall can be found here)

The total cost for the course will be £60, which is made up of :-

  • the course fee of £32.50 Payable to Sutton and Cheam Radio Society.
  • the exam fee £27.50 payable directly to the RSGB.

Places are limited, so please contact training@scrs.org.uk to register your interest.

We need to have all applications and payments finalised by the end of September for this course.

The UK has a progressive licence system, which has 3 levels.

The Foundation and Intermediate licences are obtained through practical assessments and a multiple choice exam.

The Advanced exam, to obtain the full licence, has a multiple choice exam, with no practical element.

Please note: In depth knowledge of morse code is no longer required to obtain a licence, although there is a very simple practical session as part of the foundation licence, which introduces students to it.
